Location: New York / New Jersey | Hybrid or Remote
A well-established, nationally recognized law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its litigation practice supporting mortgage servicers, institutional investors, and real estate clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who enjoys substantive litigation, courtroom appearances, legal strategy, and client interaction and wants to take meaningful ownership of a contested caseload.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will handle a diverse docket involving mortgage foreclosure, defensive litigation, title matters, and general real estate disputes, including consumer claims brought against clients.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Manage a caseload of contested foreclosure and defensive litigation matters.
- Analyze loan files, title reports, and other complex client documentation.
- Develop case strategy and advise on potential resolutions.
- Draft motions, pleadings, discovery, settlement agreements, and related litigation documents.
- Appear in state and federal court for conferences, hearings, and motion arguments.
- Conduct legal research and discovery.
- Negotiate settlements and communicate directly with sophisticated clients.
- Work closely with partners, paralegals, and support professionals to move matters efficiently.
- Prepare matter budgets, obtain client fee approvals, and manage billable and non-billable time.
- Use client portals and electronic systems to communicate and manage case requirements.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring:
- J.D. degree and an active New York bar license in good standing.
- At least 2 years of relevant litigation experience.
- Experience with New York mortgage foreclosure law and practice.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Confidence appearing in court and communicating with opposing counsel and clients.
- Excellent organization and time-management abilities.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a broader legal team.
- Professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and a solutions-oriented approach.
Admission in New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, or Massachusetts is a plus, but not required.
