Our client, a respected real estate group headquartered in Birmingham with more than 20 years of success, is seeking a Controller to lead their accounting function. This is a high-visibility role that will work closely with senior leadership, property owners, and investors. The Controller will oversee all financial reporting and operations and manage a small team of 1–2 direct reports while remaining actively involved in day-to-day functions.

Our client, a respected real estate group headquartered in Birmingham with more than 20 years of success, is seeking a Controller to lead their accounting function. This is a high-visibility role that will work closely with senior leadership, property owners, and investors. The Controller will oversee all financial reporting and operations and manage a small team of 1–2 direct reports while remaining actively involved in day-to-day functions.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and manage all accounting operations including general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
- Partner with leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and stakeholders
- Collaborate with asset managers, property owners, and investors on performance and reporting
What We’re Looking For:
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience; public/private mix is a plus
- Prior real estate or property management experience is not required but is a strong plus
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop a team
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to work directly with executives and external stakeholders
- CPA preferred but not required
