DevOps Engineer: Bridging the Gap for Efficient Delivery
Building Collaboration and Streamlining Processes
The DevOps engineer is a key player in fostering a collaborative environment between development, infrastructure, and operations teams. By working closely with all parties, the engineer identifies and optimizes the interconnectedness of these teams, leading to a smoother software development lifecycle.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Deployment Pipeline Optimization: Collaborate with various teams to design and continuously improve the software deployment pipeline, ensuring efficient delivery.
- Security and Cloud Expertise: Possess a strong understanding of security implications on designs, cloud-based application integrations, and Software as a Service (SaaS) implementations.
- Containerization Knowledge: Have in-depth knowledge and experience with container orchestration platforms like OpenShift and Kubernetes.
- Identifying Bottlenecks: Analyze interdependencies between teams and pinpoint areas impacting productivity.
- Automation Champion: Identify opportunities to automate operational tasks that hinder the delivery process.
- Documentation and Design: Create clear architectural diagrams, design specifications, and comprehensive support documentation.
- Full-Stack Awareness: Maintain a solid understanding of full-stack design principles.
- Integration Specialist: Assist in integrating applications across multiple platforms.
- Infrastructure Management: Participate in the development, support, and planning of systems and application infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities
- Project Delivery:
- Ensure timely project completion in accordance with specifications.
- Proactively communicate to management regarding potential schedule delays.
- System Availability and Performance:
- Guarantee the availability and configuration of supported systems meet established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and implement solutions that optimize company-wide operations.
- Performance Optimization:
- Implement standardized coding techniques to ensure application performance meets desired requirements.
- Continuously propose improvements to enhance overall performance.
- Customer Focus: Participate in project meetings with user representatives to understand their needs.
Continuous Learning and Collaboration
- Actively engage with experienced developers and managers to gain a comprehensive understanding of company business strategies.
- Function effectively as part of a team for the majority of projects.
- Clearly define project deliverables and obtain confirmation from the manager to ensure alignment.
Safety and Well-being
- Adhere to all Motion Industries safety guidelines.
- Participate in the mandatory GPC “safe” program.
Qualifications
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across development, infrastructure, and operations teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7 years of experience in systems engineering or administration.
- Proven experience with VMware, OpenShift, container-based applications, databases, and networking.
- Experience supporting large server infrastructures.
- Familiarity with continuous code deployment, test-driven development, and release management practices.
- Solid understanding of network protocols and server communication.
