We are assisting a family owned, established, privately-held and growing Birmingham-based company with their search for a Controller. This is an exciting opportunity for an initiative taking CPA who enjoys financial accounting and providing mentorship, and also highly values family and work/life balance. Our client is looking for a leader to oversee the financial accounting operations and assist in staff development, mentorship, and performance feedback. This position presents a great opportunity for those that want to make an immediate impact on the company and gain exposure to all areas of the company’s operations. Candidates should be comfortable “wearing many hats” and interacting with all levels of the company, including senior management.
The Corporate Controller will be responsible for the oversight of all accounting functions including cash management, job costing, A/P, A/R, general ledger, inventory, payroll and financial statements. The position will report to the CFO.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversight of the accounting operations to include the month-end process, financial statement review and approval, and management reporting
- Preparation and maintenance of the company’s budgeting and forecasting process including communication thereof with all profit and cost centers
- Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by monitoring bank balances, minimizing interest expense and maximizing use of free cash flow
- Preparation and filing of various business taxes and communication with the appropriate taxing authorities
- Annual review and negotiation of insurance policies and other company-provided benefits
- Development and maintenance of relationships with outside business partners
- Documenting current business practices and procedures and development of plans to implement industry best practices
- Primary point of contact for annual external audits, financial and insurance related inquiries
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- 5-10 years’ experience in either public accounting, industry or a combination thereof
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required. Master of Accounting or MBA preferred, CPA highly desired
- Strong general ledger, inventory knowledge, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management and treasury knowledge
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload to produce desired results
- Solid computer skills including MS Office and Excel
