We are assisting and long-standing Birmingham area company with their search for a Senior Tax Accountant. The Senior Tax Accountant will assist in the analysis/identification of tax adjustments for purposes of timely and accurately preparing the consolidated federal return, consolidated and separate company state tax returns and the quarterly income tax provision. In addition, this position will assist in the calculation of both estimated and extension tax payments for the consolidated federal return and the separate company/consolidated state income/franchise tax returns.

The Senior Tax Accountant will assist in the analysis/identification of tax adjustments for purposes of timely and accurately preparing the consolidated federal return, consolidated and separate company state tax returns and the quarterly income tax provision. In addition, this position will assist in the calculation of both estimated and extension tax payments for the consolidated federal return and the separate company/consolidated state income/franchise tax returns.
Job duties and responsibilities:
- Assists in timely and accurate preparation and filing of federal income and state income and franchise tax returns for assigned companies
- Assists in the preparation of the tax provisions, including analyzing deferred tax balances for accuracy
- Research and respond to state tax notices
- Tax research for various tax issues
- Calculates estimated and extension payments for federal income tax, state income tax and state franchise tax for assigned companies
- Maintain tax due date list
- Processes payments to all taxing jurisdictions
- Assists in gathering state apportionment data
- Analyze general ledger accounts for tax deductible/nondeductible items
- Prepare tax depreciation reconciliations for assigned companies
- Interact with internal and external auditors during various audits
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- CPA preferred, but will consider work experience in public accounting or with a large corporation
- Experience with both tax provision and tax return software (OneSource experience preferred)
- At least two years of tax work-related experience (banking experience preferred)
- Thorough understanding of deferred taxes under ASC 740
- Excellent research, organizational, analytical and communication (oral and written) skills (BNA research experience preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills utilizing large data sets
- Experience with other Microsoft Office tools, including Word, and PowerPoint
- Excellent inter-personal, influencing, negotiation, consensus building and conflict resolution skills
